Senator James Skoufis (D-Hudson Valley) recently presented Deo Persaud, Vice President and CEO of Aurochemicals in Washingtonville, with the Senate’s Empire Award, the highest honor in the State Senate for small businesses. The Empire Award is reserved for businesses and business owners who have used their work to positively impact their communities by giving back.
Three years after immigrating to the United States in 1991, Deo and his wife Indranie Persaud founded Aurochemicals, which is now a leading production and research company specializing in flavored and fragrance ingredients. In August, Aurochemicals earned the Safe Quality Food Institute’s “Excellent” rating for the 6th straight year in a row.
Aurochemicals and the Persauds have gone above and beyond to implement corporate social responsibility into their business practices. Throughout the pandemic, they have regularly donated food to local pantries as well as given monetary donations to food pantries and residents in need. Last year alone, they donated $10,000 to the Country Kids Food Pantry in Washingtonville, enabling them to offer fresh food and other items to neighbors.
